The most notable change is that instead of always playing on a flat 2D plane, the playfields can are now 3D shapes, spheres, rounded cubes, ‘peanuts’, and more, which changes your play style. You also still have a limited number of smart bombs to clear enemies off the screen when things get a bit too crazy but they are not always available to you depending on what level you’re on. You use the left analog stick to move your ship and the right analog stick to fire in any direction. The gameplay of Geometry Wars 3 is fairly simple. Can this game live up to its ancestors or will it be just a ghost of its former self? This game has been brought to us from a new developer, Lucid Games, and published by an old name brought to back life, Sierra. Rising from the ashes is a new Geometry Wars, aptly titled Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions. Fast forward to present day, we have the Xbox One with impressive hardware inside of it and a new area for arcade game. Eventually other games drew our attention away from the game while the developer was bought up and eventually closed by their new owners. A sequel was released a few years later that was just as fun. It was fast, flashy, and very addicting to try to reach even higher scores. Our household quickly became addicted to a twin-stick shooter called Geometry Wars. However, it is one of the most unique, challenging, and ambitious modes that the series has ever seen. But Lucid Games didn’t rest with the familiar, the inclusion of “Adventure Mode” is a great, structured system with each level being distinct from the next, but not every level is a winner. Even if all you’re coming here for is the “Classic Mode”, it justifies the purchase. "Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is accurate in name, providing depth and nuance to what was ostensibly a flat game previously. Seriously folks, unless you hate this style of game then you won't be putting this down for a long, long, long time." The controls are spot-on, the graphics are beautiful and well implemented, the audio is akin to being at a concert (especially if you crank your sub-woofers up!) and with all the game modes that are included in the game there's tons of gameplay here. Geometry Wars 3 pulls out all the stops and I can't find a single issue with the game. "Perhaps the only game I've ever gave a solid 10 but a desired 10 to. While the introduction of 3D stages doesn’t change the franchise’s core formula as much as you may expect, it still manages to breathe new life into a solid starting point – and even minor presentation and difficulty niggles can’t sully this shapely treat." Offering a wealth of content as well as endless replayability, this game is a real winner. "Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions marks a triumphant PlayStation debut for an already popular property – and a solid start for the resurrected Sierra label. So what are you waiting for, go shoot at some shapes!" Score Attack purists might not love the inclusion of Drones from Galaxies, as they'll undoubtedly skew results, but thankfully the Drones are only tied down to the single player campaign. Crammed with content for just about any player, whether they're looking for single player challenges or just want to kick back and spend the night trying to perfect their scores in the game's Evolved mode, it's all there, ready and waiting. "Dimensions is a great return of the franchise. That new take doesn't hit quite as strong a note as its predecessors, but the presence of the modes that made Geometry Wars so beloved makes for a game that feels much more definitive, and much more worth recommending."
Tallying its original content on its own, Dimensions offers a very replayable, highly varied take on a too-long dormant modern classic. "That inclusion isn't Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions' saving grace, exactly. It may have been past installments in the series that were billed as evolution, but Dimensions is where Geometry Wars truly evolved." That old game is still there, it's just unspeakably better now. "Classic Mode's inclusion might just be a nod to the mindset of Lucid Games when developing Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions - improve as much as possible while still staying true to the core of the franchise.
